© Sensei David Bowater welcomes you to learn the style of shotokan karate at : Pensnett Shotokan Karate Club.
Sensei David Bowater started the art of karate aged nine, he
was under the guidance of Sensei Dez Temple who taught the style wado ryu, as
with many martial arts, discipline and respect were taught at all times. He
graded up to his purple belt by Sensei Josh Johnson, shortly after Sensei Dez
Temple closed his club down and Sensei David Bowater took time out to be with
his family.
Having started karate at a young age it did leave an impression
with Sensei David Bowater and wanting his children to have the same
opportunities as he did with karate he took up training for the martial again in
2001 under Sensei Paul Campbell studying the original style of karate
"shotokan".
Determination hard work and plenty of training got Sensei
David Bowater up to the standard to take his 1st dan grade in 2003, whilst with
Sensei Paul Campbell he had opportunities to train with 9 times world champion
Wayne Otto.
One of Sensei David Bowaters dreams was to open his own dojo, so in 2004 he made his decision and opened the "Pensnett Shotokan Karate Club" with the intention of passing on his knowledge of shotokan karate to his students.
After a brief period of taking training sessions with Sensei
Mandie Read chief instructor at "Dudley Shukokai Karate Club" he was so
impressed with her standards, support and encouragement that she constantly gave
all her students, Sensei David Bowater decided the only way forward was to join
her association, this would help him and his students gain more knowledge by
attending competitions, events, and karate courses which are readily available
within this association.
Pensnett shotokan karate club is based in the West
Midlands and we teach the original style of karate shotokan, all are welcome,
come and watch us train and maybe even join in, the first lesson is free.
If you want to get fit have fun make friends and gain more confidence give karate a try.
Sensei Dave's children all have an interest in Shotokan Karate and some have gone on to compete for England as part of the F.E.K.O. team.
This video was shown on BBC2 News Sport in September 2007.
